Where Did the Condemnation Go?

Romans 8:1-2  There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in the Messiah, Yahshua, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.  For the law of the Spirit of life in the Messiah, Yahshua, has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Sounds great, but what does this verse actually mean?  Ever really take the time to think about its implications?

First of all, why were we condemned before?  Well, because there is a LAW by which we’ll all be judged one day, and you and I have broken this Law over and over again.  So, our prospects when our court date arrives were pretty BLEAK.  We were facing CONDEMNATION (sentencing).

But now the condemnation is gone?  Where did it all go?  Did the laws that condemned us before suddenly disappear?

Of course not.  But now we know WHAT Law we were supposed to be obeying all along. Messiah set the example which taught us HOW to do it right, and due to his sacrifice, our past offenses from before we came to this understanding have been completely forgiven (bless YHWH). This is called “GRACE.”

Grace and Law

Law without Grace is called Condemnation and Death

Grace without Law is called Hedonism and Chaos.

If you’re embrace one and reject the other, then Houston: we most definitely have a problem!  Not one jot or tittle of the law has gone away. Messiah told his disciples NUMEROUS times that they needed to obey “Moses.”  And what about grace?

Grace is something that’s been around since the Book of GENESIS.  All of Israel was “under grace.”

So if your “Pastor” has been telling you that grace replaced the Law, maybe you should STOP paying him to entertain you.  Instead, take some time out of your busy life and read the Bible for yourself.

After we get things figured out and decide to clean things up, we’re baptized into Messiah and enjoy the benefit of that atonement.  We are “born again” which literally means we have died and been reborn as a new (and newly INNOCENT) creature.  So what next?  Well, as rational adults, we learn from the mistakes of our “past lives” and we OBEY the Law this time around.

Hebrews 10:26-27  For if we sin wilfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Messiah’s sacrifice atoned for our “grace period,” but from this point forward – WE are ACCOUNTABLE for what Laws we VOLUNTARILY break.  What’s more, YHWH puts His Spirit in us to actually write His Law on our hearts so that we will not even desire to sin against Him.  This IS the purpose of the Holy Spirit.

Ezekiel 11:19-20  And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. And I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them a heart of flesh that they may walk in my statutes, and keep my ordinances, and do them. And they shall be my people, and I will be their Elohim.”

Jeremiah 31:33  “But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel After those days,” says YHWH, “I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their god, and they shall be my people.”

Now that’s about a smorgasbord of food for thought right there!
