Most of us have been taught that the Law disappeared after Yahshua was killed. We’ve grown up with this understanding.
So then we ask: did Yahshua really make all of or at least some parts of the Law go away and / or maybe tack on a few new pieces? If he did, even if YHWH Himself did… wouldn’t that be a sin?
Even YHWH doesn’t break His own commandments. So after Moses, it is IMPOSSIBLE that parts of the Law could disappear or that new Laws could be created. To do so would make YHWH a liar, and we know that He is not. So the “New Testament” contains no “New Law.” Just consider for 30 seconds what Yahshua actually taught regarding the Law of Moses:
Matt. 5:17-19 Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to abolish but to fulfill (make full, obey). For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (But isn’t this EXACTLY what we do: teach men to break not only the least commandments, but also the big ones too – and completely wholesale?)
Matt. 7:12 In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets. (The “Golden Rule?” That’s just Moses he’s teaching once again… Nothing new)
Matt. 23:23 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites (actors)! For you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the Law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others. (Judgment, mercy, and faith are all things the Law teaches us.)
Luke 10:26-28 And He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?” 27 And he answered, “YOU SHALL LOVE YHWH YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” 28 And He said to him, “You have answered correctly; DO THIS AND YOU WILL LIVE.” (Here are supposedly Yahshua’s two new commandments which the churches call the “Law of Christ.” And where did they come from? Once again, even this expert in the Law knew that these two commandments define the purpose of all the Law. Today, we have it backwards: we teach that these are two new commandments that magically REPLACED all the rest.)
Luke 16:17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one stroke of a letter of the Law to fail. (Today, we believe the opposite. We teach that the Law was a divine, failed experiment meant to be a bondage to people and torture them for millennia.)
Matt. 15:8-9 THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME. BUT IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME, TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE PRECEPTS OF MEN. (This is US. We worship our god in religious ceremonies, but we do so IN VAIN because what? We have “made the commandment of YHWH of none effect by our tradition.” Instead of the commandments of YHWH – we teach our OWN commandments as doctrine. Thou shalt not miss church. That shalt not wear jewelry. Thou shalt not grow a beard. Thou MAYEST work all day on the seventh day if you like. Thou mayest eat many a pork chop. Do you see where I’m going with this? We’ve REPLACED His Law with our own – COMPLETELY. We now practice OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS – not His.)
Mark 10:17,19 As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” “You know the commandments, ‘DO NOT MURDER, DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, DO NOT STEAL, DO NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS, Do not defraud, HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER.’” (Did Yahshua JUST tell someone that they have to keep the commandments in order to inherit eternal life? He DID, but that’s not what we teach anymore.)
Mark 12:29 Yahshua answered, “The foremost is, ‘HEAR, O ISRAEL! YHWH OUR GOD IS ONE – YHWH. (Some people think we should only obey the Ten Commandments that were written on stone. The thing is – Yahshua said the greatest commandment of all… was one that was NOT on a tablet. Are there only ten that matter? Nope. Yahshua seemed to think there were more than that.)
Luke 1:6 They were both righteous in the sight of Elohim, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of YHWH. (As a side note, Luke considered obedience to the Law of Moses as the definition of righteousness. If that’s what it means to be righteous, and we DON’T do the same, what are we considered “in the sight of Elohim?”)
John 14:15 If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. (And what were Yahshua’s commandments? Something NEW? Remember what commandments he’s been teaching all along – the Law of Moses!)
Matt. 7:23 And then I will declare to them, “I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.” So Yahshua said that in judgment, he would reject people who “work law-less-ness.” When we live without the Law, isn’t that EXACTLY what we’re doing?)
Matt. 23:2-3 …saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses, therefore all that they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds -for they say things and do not do them.” (Yahshua told his disciples to OBEY THE SCRIBES AND PHARISEES, but only when they taught “from Moses’ seat” from which only the Law of Moses could be read.)
