A Bible Vocabulary Lesson

Are you educated in Christianspeak?  Do you use all the buzzwords: holiness, righteousness, faith, etc.?  I wonder – have you realized that most of our favorite terms all have a common, unifying thread, and it’s one we seem to have long since forgotten?

Remembering the Laws of YHWH

Hosea 4:6  My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you will not be a priest to me: seeing you have forgotten the law of your Elohim, I will also forget your children.

Having the sense to obey the Law of YHWH

Deuteronomy 4:5-6  Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgements, even as YHWH my Elohim commanded me, that you should do so in the land where you go to possess it. Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.”

What is FAITH?

The trust by which we establish the Law of YHWH as our guide

Romans 3:31  Do we then make void the law through faith? YHWH forbid: rather, we establish the law.

The innocence that comes from obeying the Law of YHWH

Deuteronomy 6:25  And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before YHWH our Elohim, as he has commanded us.

The distinction that comes from obeying the Law of YHWH

Deuteronomy 28:9  YHWH shall establish you an holy people unto himself, as he has sworn to you, if you will keep the commandments of YHWH your Elohim, and walk in his ways.

What is the HOLY SPIRIT?

The will to obey the Law of YHWH

Ezekiel 11:19-20  And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them a heart of flesh that they may walk in my statutes, and keep my ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their Elohim.

What is LOVE?

The practice perfected by obeying the Law of YHWH

Matthew 22:37-40  Yahshua said to him, “You shall love YHWH your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like the first, you shall love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

What is SIN?

Transgressing the Law of YHWH

1 John 3:4  Whosoever commits sin transgresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

Coming back to obedience of the Law of YHWH

Ezekiel 18:30  “Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways,” says YHWH Elohim. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

Do you see something strange here?

We’ve been taught that there was a judgement:

Hebrews 9:27  And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement:

We also believe there is a Judge:

Hebrews 10:30  For we know him that has said, “Vengeance belongs to me: I will recompense,” says YHWH. And again, YHWH shall judge his people.

We even believe that we’ll have an attorney when the time comes:

1 John 2:1  My little children, these things write I to you, that you sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Yahshua the Messiah: the righteous.

In fact, the only thing we refuse to accept in this whole celestial courtroom scenario is the key ingredient to EVERYTHING ELSE we read about above…

Somehow we’re all convinced that there is no LAW.  We’ve all been taught that the one thing the Father gave us directly, said was for ALL of His people, said was FOREVER, said was holy, called easy, and even went as far as to write it first on stone and then on our hearts… just doesn’t exist now.

I mean seriously – we even make excuses why we shouldn’t take a break and rest on the seventh day!  Talk about rebellion: the commandment even the Father Himself kept from CREATION no less, and we even invent doctrines to avoid doing THAT!

Wow.  And the churches are full!  Not for nothing He gave us HIS LAW, kept calling people back to it when they’d go astray, and from cover to cover of the Bible we find 66 books and letters FULL of consistent evidence of one thing:
